12 Signs Wine is the first brand to pair astrology with wine. Founded by Marie Fox, an entrepreneur with a passion for creative ideas, the concept came to life one night over dinner with a friend. As the conversation weaved in and out of wine and astrology, the idea hit her, "why not blend the two? It's fun, personalized, and you could even match the flavor of the wine to the personality to the sign." Hello perfect birthday gift!
What started out as an idea, became a real, live brand in June of 2011. Marie worked with her good friend Stephen Ansley, a level II Sommelier, to select the varietals and flavor profiles and then found boutique vineyards to produce the best wine.
Each bottle was handcrafted with premium California appellation wine to match the personality of your zodiac sign, whether that is bold and feisty like an Aries, sweet and romantic like a Pisces, or bright and versatile like a Gemini.

Fire Signs include Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. These spicy and feisty signs need a wine that makes a statement as big as they do! The fire sign's wine is a bold, fruit forward Old Vine Zinfandel with a little bit of spice. We believe that these signs work well with a spicy and more flavorful wine because they are the most naturally outgoing and dynamic signs of the zodiac.
Earth Signs include Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. These signs are grounded, earthy, and practical. They make reliable, stable, trustworthy friends who love the pleasures of good food and fine wine. Cabernet Sauvignon is a sensual and earthy red wine, which is why we paired it with Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn. This rich and well structured wine only gets better with age, just like the earth signs!
Air Signs include Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius. We paired these social butterflies with a white wine since air is the lightest element. Air is also the symbol for intelligence and communication so we created an extra "bright" and "vibrant" Chardonnay that is "well balanced" for all the Libras out there. Gemini is especially flexible and Chardonnay is the most versatile grape varietal grown.
Water Signs include Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. Water rules the emotions and these signs are gifted with a keen awareness of human motivations that the other signs may not have. They are naturally intuitive and aware of what is happening underneath the surface around them. The Pinot Noir grape has a very thin skin, which makes it very sensitive to its environment, much like a water sign. Additionally, Pinot Noir is classically considered the wine of love, which works well for these sentimental signs.

This wine is more like a Chardonnay with the soul of a Sauvignon Blanc. We had a bit of a dilemma when we were pairing our wines. Chardonnay was the obvious choice for the air signs because it is the most popular wine in the world and air is the lightest element in the zodiac. Unfortunately, Chardonnay is not Marie's favorite wine because it is often times too buttery or oaky... and it was paired with her sign of Gemini. Yikes! What could we do? Luckily for us, Chardonnay is extremely obedient to the winemaker's wishes so we were able to make a Chardonnay that every Gemini will love, even Marie, by fermenting the majority of wine in stainless steel tanks instead of the traditional oak barrels, which means that it stays crisp and fruity while still retaining a slight creaminess for the real Chardonnay lovers out there.
Our well balanced Chardonnay from Alexander Valley in Sonoma is bright, crisp, and vibrant, just like the air signs. 80% of the wine was fermented in stainless steel to preserve the fruit and acid, while the remaining 20% was barrel fermented in French oak to add some weight and slight creaminess. All of the wine was barrel aged after fermentation for 6 months in French Oak, although only 20% went through malolactic fermentation. Flavors of apple, lemon zest, and dried pineapple make this crisp wine perfect for all white wine lovers.

NOSE: Green apple, ripe apricot, white peach, lemon verbena, slight tropical
PALATE: Light and crisp with nice acidity, apple, lemon zest, dried pineapple, and a slight creamy finish
This one is Marie's favorite varietal. Our delicate Pinot Noir is reminiscent of an elegant French burgundy. It has a stunning ruby color with delicious notes of red cherry, cranberry, and a hint of savory spice. The grapes are from a small artisan vineyard located at the north edge of the Foxen Canyon Wine Trail in Santa Barbara County. The vineyard is planted in a north-south direction which allows for maximum sun exposure while still providing an open flow for cooling Pacific breezes which ensures a long growing season.
The grapes were harvested by hand, cold soaked, and fermented with natural yeast resulting in a very pure and natural expression of the fruit. The fermentation occurs in small open top tanks, and the punch down method (two times per day) is used to maximize the skin contact and flavor extraction. Next the wine was transferred into French oak barrels which were rotated on their side
and left undisturbed for aging for 20 months. The wine is 100% Pinot Noir from the most highly rated Dijon Clones – 50% coming from Clone #667 and 50% from Clone #777.

PALATE: Very delicate and elegant, red cherry, raspberry, dried cranberry, dried herbs, and slight vanilla
Our classic Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma county was grown in the Reichel Vineyard, a spectacular high elevation vineyard on Pine Mountain in Cloverdale that sits at an elevation of 2,200-2,500 ft. The elevated vineyard has slightly cooler days than the valley floor and much cooler evenings due to the influence of the Pacific Ocean. This provides a longer growing season, which allows for slower maturity and thus more intensity of flavors in the grapes.
On the palate, the rich mouth-coating expression of fruit and dark chocolate mixed with the firm integrated tannins leads to a long, velvety finish. This wine has been barrel aged in french oak for 18 months. It contains 10% Petite Verdot and 4% Malbec to add color, spice, and structure. The
blended additions of Petite Verdot added color and a soft forward fruit flavor, which
helped to mellow the very big tannic Cabernet. The 4% of 2008 Malbec added a critical oak aged wine
component and depth of fruit. This dry and earthy wine is perfect to enjoy now or cellar for an important occasion in the years to come.

NOSE: Earthy, cigar box, dried herbs, baking chocolate, savory hickory sauce
PALATE: Well structured and dry, plum, baking chocolate, blackberry, and a hint of mint
This is our most popular varietal. Our winemaker, Joseph Smith, is known for his Old Vine Zins. When we say Old Vine, we mean old. The grapes come from the oldest Zinfandel vineyard estate in Lodi and one of the oldest in California, with vines ranging from 15 years old to 120 years old! The blend included three of the vineyard blocks, a 45 year old block, a 75 year old block, and a 120 year old block. Each block delivered unique and special characteristics to the scrumptious final wine blend. 7% Petite Syrah was also blended into the wine to add even more complexity.
The Lodi region is famous for its deep and rich soils as well as temperatures that are very warm in the day, while cooling by 35-40 degrees in the evening. After the grapes were hand harvested, they were fermented on their skins for 6 days, soft pressed, and put into one year, two year, and neutral oak barrels with the balance going into a stainless steel tank to preserve the fresh fruit characteristics. The wine was aged for 30 months before final blending and bottling. After many months of waiting, this wine is ready for you. We bet you'll love this fruit forward velvety textured wine with a hint of spice and dark chocolate flavors.
