About the Wine

All of 12 Signs Wine is from boutique vineyards throughout California's most prestigious wine growing regions. Marie worked with level II sommelier Stephen Ansley, winemaker Joseph Smith, and 5th generation wine industry veteran Jeff Hansen to handcraft the optimal blend for each zodiac sign. We currently offer an Old Vine Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir.

Old Vine Zinfandel  Lodi, CA 2008


FIRE SIGNS are outgoing and feisty so we paired them with a wine that makes a statement almost as big as they do.  Meet our big, bold, fruit forward Old Vine Zinfandel with a little bit of savory spice.  

When we say Old Vine Zinfandel, we mean old! This barrel aged wine with ripe black fruit and a peppery spice was made with Zinfandel grapes grown from 120 year old vines, the oldest in the United States. Throw in a lucky 7% Petite Syrah to add some complexity and you have a knockout from start to finish!  Our winemaker Joseph Smith is known for his Zins - so sit back, relax, and enjoy.

COLOR: Deep Garnet
NOSE: Coffee, dark chocolate, green pepper, dried cherries, slight earth tones 
PALATE: Velvety and smooth, dark plum, ripe blackberry, boysenberry, and hints of vanilla

Cabernet Sauvignon  Alexander Valley, CA 2009




EARTH SIGNS are grounded, organized, practical, and well, "earthy".  What better wine for them than our well structured, earthy, and rich Cabernet Sauvignon?  It is the practical choice in red wine, for the most practical signs.

Our classic Cabernet Sauvignon from the prestigious Alexander Valley in Sonoma County has been barrel aged in french oak for 20 months. On the palate, the rich mouth-coating expression of fruit and dark chocolate mixed with the firm integrated tannins leads to a long, velvety finish. It contains 10% Petite Verdot and 4% Malbec to add color, spice, and structure.   It is perfect to enjoy now or cellar for an important occasion in the years to come.

COLOR: Deep Garnet
NOSE: Earthy, cigar box, dried herbs, baking chocolate, savory hickory sauce 
PALATE: Well structured and dry, plum, baking chocolate, blackberry, and a hint of mint

Pinot Noir  Santa Maria Valley, CA 2009




WATER SIGNS are sensitive to what is happening in their surroundings.  They are also romantic and complex.  We paired them with our "passion in a glass" Pinot Noir because its thin skinned grape is extremely sensitive to its environment.  

Grown from a small vineyard located at the north edge of the Foxen 
Canyon Wine Trail in Santa Barbara County, our delicate Pinot Noir is reminiscent of an elegant French burgundy.  Barrel aged in french oak for 20 months, this wine exhibits a stunning ruby color and delicious notes of red cherry and a hint of savory spice.

COLOR: Light Ruby
NOSE: Red cherry, strawberry, dried cranberry, prim rose, sweet cedar, and a hint of savory spice
PALATE: Very delicate and elegant, red cherry, raspberry, dried cranberry, dried herbs, and slight vanilla

Chardonnay  Alexander Valley, CA 2009




AIR SIGNS are versatile and quite smart.  Air is the lightest element so it is only natural that it would be paired with a white wine.  The Chardonnay is the winemaker's dream because it is so versatile!  Our well balanced Chardonnay is bright, crisp, and vibrant, just like the air signs. 
  

Five different Chardonnays were used to create this light and refreshing Sonoma Chardonnay.  80% of the wine was fermented in stainless steel to produce crisp, fruity flavors, while the remaining 20% was barrel fermented in French oak to add some weight and slight creaminess.  Flavors of apple, lemon zest, and dried pineapple make this crisp wine perfect for a hot summer day by the pool.   

COLOR: Citron
NOSE: Green apple, ripe apricot, white peach, lemon verbena, slight tropical
PALATE: Light and crisp with nice acidity, apple, lemon zest, dried pineapple, and a slight creamy finish
